The "Lord Wilton" Guarneri del Gesł was made in Cremona, Italy in 1742 and was owned by Lord Yehudi Menuhin. It shows del Gesł making a superb musical instrument while in his most eccentric mood.
Menuhin was one of the most famous violinists of the 20th century. Lord Menuhin was born in New York of Russian immigrant parents, but became a naturalised Briton in 1985 and was knighted two years later. He died in died in Berlin of heart failure March 1999 at the age of 82.
